Because it’s all about our community, PR Fiestas donates the proceeds to My First Horizon, Inc.

Mission

My First Horizon is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to provide quality residential placement and advocate safety, dignity, independence and civil rights for individuals with developmental disabilities. My First Horizon Group Home Inc. is committed to helping these people to live, work and enjoy the leisure activities that help integrate them to the community – and achieve their personal goals.

Goals

My First Horizon Group Home, Inc. has a single-family home in Hollywood, Florida in a pleasant neighborhood with spacious bedrooms, adequate yard space and a swimming pool. Its convenient central location is within close proximity to shopping malls, restaurants, parks, recreation, and public transportation. It is the goal of My First Horizon, Inc. to dramatically improve the quality of life for developmentally disabled residents. The group home model will support an interdisciplinary approach with all service providers, family and friends of the individuals served. Individualized intervention will be implemented to modify behavior, while teaching and maintaining functional, social, communication and living skills so residents can be more self-reliant.

  Our First Horizon Day.

This first annual First Horizon Day is a new component at the PR Fiestas Patronales to receive all developmental disability population free on Saturday October 8, 2005. They will have the opportunity to ride the world’s largest inflatable slide as well as all carnival free from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Parents and or Guardians will only pay $2.50 admission.

We will have basketball hoops competitions by Tim Hardaway (NBA) with opportunity to win prizes as well as fashion show where we will have the opportunity to see some of our DD children participating.

We will have booth with vendors that will provide information about community programs and events in the area. We will also have experts that will answer questions regarding Speech, Occupational, Physical, and Behavioral therapy needs. Information regarding different disabilities and helpful hints on how to assist your children will also be available.

Past Community Events

Our Students are a high priority for Fiestas Patronales

Fiestas Patronales and Business Expo will feature workshops for students and parents to inform them how to finance university tuition, obtain scholarships, and even learn how to go to college for free. Motivational workshops will help students learn from the experts how to stay focused and not quit college. We will raffle scholarships and a Laptop among participating students.

Tim  and Carl will facilitate instructional drills. They will have a free throw contest, and a three point contest, and a trivia contest about Tim. The kids can win a autographed ball, 2 season tickets, and two opening night tickets. Saturday October 8, 2005 at 2:30PM

The well being of our community is a commitment

Fiestas Patronales is assembling a health fair to include all necessary information to obtaining health services, including hospitals doing screenings, how to obtain Health Insurance, how to cover your medical costs in an emergency, Services for Developmental Disability Populations and more. Keeping our community well informed and helping them take care of their health is a high priority for us.
